Updated : 2021-10-19

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has started to offer COVID-19 booster shots amid rising evidence supporting an additional dose of the vaccine can improve immunity.

Residents who have received two doses of the inactivated vaccine at least six months ago can receive a booster shot at designated medical institutions with their identity card or passport and vaccination record.

Residents receive COVID-19 booster shots in Huangpu.

Reservation is not required. However, residents must pay attention to personal epidemic protection and cooperate with the inquiry of medical staff. In addition, they are subject to a 30-minute medical observation after the vaccination.

The booster shots have a sound neutralization effect on the variant strains such as Delta and can elicit stronger protection against variants. Researches show that the antibody level will be 10 to 30 times that of the original after 14 days from receiving the booster shots.
