Huangpu to pilot distributed rooftop PV development

Updated : 2021-09-23

Guangzhou's Huangpu has recently been selected by the National Energy Administration among 676 counties, county-level cities and districts to pilot distributed photovoltaic (PV) development on rooftops.

The reasons for Huangpu's entry lie in its abundant PV and rooftop resources as well as its huge electricity demands. Located in eastern Guangzhou and south of the Tropic of Cancer, the district features a long summer and short winter. The average sunshine duration exceeds 1,000 hours per year.

In addition, the rooftops of local factories, schools, hospitals, shopping malls, office buildings, public institutions and residential buildings are suitable for centralized PV development. By the end of 2020, the installed capacity of distributed PV projects in Huangpu had totaled more than 110MWp and the annual power generation capacity had reached 100 million kWh.

As a main battlefield for Guangzhou's real economy development, the district ranked first in the city for electricity consumption last year, which is expected to sustain a strong growth momentum for the long term. It has thus been active in optimizing energy structure and promoting new and recyclable energies. Local energy consumption per GDP dropped by 20.02 percent during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20).

Next, the district will plan for the mass connection of rooftop PV projects into power grids and expand the applications of PV projects.
