The first session of the Second Huangpu District Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) was held on Aug 29 to review Huangpu's achievements over the past six years and to plan development for the next five years.
Over the past six years, Huangpu has remained at the forefront of China's top 100 districts and recorded an annualized GDP growth of 7 percent.
The district has become one of the most intensive investment areas in South China with the introduction of nearly 1,000 high-quality projects, of which six had an investment of 50 billion yuan ($8 billion) and more than 30 had an investment of more than 10 billion yuan.
Huangpu is home to more than 30 major scientific and technological innovation platforms, over 1,000 high-end R&D institutions and many heavyweight scientific and technological infrastructures such as Bioland Laboratory.
The first session of the Second Huangpu District Congress of the CPC is held on Aug 29.
In addition, the district has attracted 103 academicians and 1,151 high-caliber talents. The numbers rank first in Guangzhou and are at the forefront of Guangdong.
Huangpu has been selected among China's happiest districts for two consecutive years due to its prominent ecological environment, convenient transportation system and high-end medical and education resources.
Three 100-billion-yuan industrial clusters related to automobile, electronics and energy industries are taking shape as well as four 50-billion-yuan industrial clusters related to biomedicine, chemical engineering, food and beverage, and electrical machinery.
Huangpu will have more than 1 trillion yuan in output value of industrial enterprises above designated size and State-owned assets by 2025 while fix-asset investment and gross merchandise sales will also exceed 1 trillion yuan over the next five years.
