Guangzhou's Huangpu district has struck an even balance between the normalized epidemic prevention and control and high-quality social and economic development in the first half of this year, according to the 16th plenary session of the 1st CPC Huangpu district committee held on Aug 8.

Local GDP reached 190.9 billion yuan ($29.5 billion) from January to June, up 16.1 percent year on year. The total output value of industrial enterprises above designated size exceeded 400 billion yuan for the first time, and fix-asset investment surpassed 90 billion yuan for the first time. The district's foreign trade value grew by 42.4 percent to more than 170 billion yuan.

The 16th plenary session of the 1st CPC Huangpu district committee is held on Aug 9.

In addition, the district ranked first in Guangzhou with a COVID-19 vaccination rate of more than 80 percent. It has built 18.5 kilometers of green corridors and completed the treatment of all black and odorous water bodies in the district. On average, there is a public library available to every 7,000 local residents, which is among the highest domestically.

Forging ahead, Huangpu will strive to become an upgraded version of the Guangzhou Central Business District, a leading area for the development of artificial intelligence and digital economy, and a charming international island with a slow-paced lifestyle on the Pearl River.
