Baidu launches new generation of autonomous buses in Huangpu

Updated : 2021-08-09

Tech giant Baidu unveiled its new generation of Apollo Ⅱ autonomous buses in Guangzhou's Huangpu district on Aug 5.

With the same automated driving ability as the Apollo Robotaxis and smart cockpit, Apollo Ⅱ is designed to provide mobility services for people with various transportation needs.

With the help of the newest self-driving computing platform and sensor system, Apollo Ⅱ is able to detect certain situations as far as 250 meters away and make rapid responses to emergencies. The cockpit is equipped with a 55-inch transparent smart window, which is a screen showing the road conditions and other vehicles nearby. Users can interact with the virtual guide on the screen to get information about shopping, dining and entertainment nearby.

The Vehicle Infrastructure Cooperative System (VICS) and the 5G Tele-Chauffeur make Apollo Ⅱ safer than the Apollo Robotaxi. VICS can reduce vehicle intelligence problems by 54 percent and reduce hard braking at crossroads by 90 percent. The 5G Tele-Chauffeur enables the vehicles to operate normally in extreme conditions.
