The Guangzhou-Hong Kong Scientific and Technological Cooperation Park, which is situated in the Yunpu Industrial Park area, was jointly launched by Huangpu district in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

The core area of the park, covering an area of 19.8 hectares, started construction on Aug 28, 2019, with a total investment of 152.3 billion yuan ($23.6 billion).

On Feb 19 this year, the Implementation Plan for the Construction of the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Smart Manufacturing Cooperation Zone was released, proposing to build the Guangzhou-Hong Kong Scientific and Technological Cooperation Park, which will be based in the Guangzhou Yunpu Industrial Park.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), the park will focus on three main areas – industrial park upgrading, targeted business promotion, and innovation-driven development.

It will promote the transformation and upgrading of enterprises to achieve high-quality development, lure investment in areas of artificial intelligence, biomedicine and other fields as well as promote academician workstations, postdoctoral workstations and state key laboratories in the zone.

Since the beginning of this year, the park has been striving to seize the opportunities brought by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, promote innovations, cultivate new advantages, and optimize new development. The park is now home to 10 listed firms, accounting for 15.6 percent of Huangpu's total.

From January to May this year, the park witnessed the total actual use of foreign capital hit $197 million, an increase of 860 percent compared to the figure in the whole 2020. It has promoted 35 companies to settle in Yunpu Industrial Park with a total registered capital of 146 million yuan.
