Guangzhou Daily: Huangpu individuals, groups honored for poverty relief efforts

Five outstanding individuals and three outstanding groups from Guangzhou's Huangpu district were honored by the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and the Guangdong Provincial People's Government on June 23 for their contributions to poverty alleviation.

One of the honorees, Song Zhonghua of the Huangpu housing and urban-rural construction bureau, was assigned to Qingyuan's Jiangzuo village as the head of the local poverty alleviation working group. He has helped the village address problems with drinking water and transport and raised 1 million yuan ($154,900) for the construction of a cultural square.

By the end of 2020, the per capital income of Jiangzuo's impoverished residents had been increased to 18,600 yuan, while the local collective income had risen to 361,500 yuan. All impoverished households had been removed from poverty.

The other four awardees were Zeng Qingpeng of Wenchong sub-district, Luo Jiefeng of Lianhe sub-district and Li Shuang of SCI Group, who were assigned to Qingyuan for poverty relief assistance, as well as Lu Yongjia of Changzhou sub-district, who was sent to Duyun.

The Huangpu human resources and social security bureau, Xiagang Sub-District Office and GDD Holding Group were recognized as outstanding groups for poverty alleviation.

Since 2013, Huangpu has allocated 181.04 million yuan in funds for poverty relief and lifted all impoverished households across the district above the poverty line. In addition, it has earmarked 960 million yuan, sent 102 officials, 25 teachers, 202 medical staff members to Qingyuan, Qiannan Bouyi and Miao autonomous prefecture, Tibet autonomous region, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region and the Three Gorges reservoir region for assistance.
