Huangpu tallies 1.26 million permanent residents in 7th national census

According to the seventh national census, Guangzhou's Huangpu district was home to 1.26 million permanent residents as of Nov 1, 2020.

This figure is an increase of 52.05 percent compared with the sixth national census in 2010, and means the annualized growth rate was 4.28 percent, 0.35 percentage points higher than the city average.

In terms of gender, Huangpu had 699,706 male and 564,741 female residents, accounting for 55.34 percent and 44.66 percent of the total population respectively. The male-to-female ratio increased from 1.21 in 2010 to 1.24 in 2020.

The number of residents aged 14 or younger made up 15.44 percent of the local population; residents aged between 15 and 59 accounted for 76.15 percent; and residents aged 60 or above accounted for 8.41 percent. As an ideal place for living and working, Huangpu had a sufficient working-age population and reserve force.

Meanwhile, the district had 377,600 residents educated to college level or above. It had 29,864 people who have received a college education or above in every 100,000 residents. The proportion of residents with a college education or above rose from 15.33 percent in 2010 to 29.86 percent in 2020.

Due to a vibrant flow of personnel, Huangpu also counted 694,600 permanent residents whose household registration was not in Guangzhou. The migrant population accounted for more than 50 percent of the total.
