Huangpu fiscal budget to allocate 1.36b yuan for key projects

Guangzhou's Huangpu district will earmark 1.36 billion yuan ($208.3 million) from its fiscal budget this year to invest in industrial, transport, educational and medical projects.

A total of 134 million yuan will be invested in strategic emerging industries and forward-looking scientific and technological innovations. Construction of a large-scale scientific facility related to aircraft tire dynamics, plus a large-scale scientific research facility looking at human cell lineage, will be prioritized.

The district will allocate 435 million yuan for transport projects. Work on the Huangpu Tram Line 2 will be pushed forward. Spanning 14.39 kilometers from Xiangxue to Nangang stations, the tram line will come into operation in 2022, with a peak passenger volume of 4,000 people per hour.

In addition, Huangpu Tram Line 5 will begin construction this year and is expected to begin trial operations in late May 2024.

A total investment of 420 million yuan will be spent on educational projects. Of note, the Guangzhou Experimental High School will be built into a national demonstrative school. Occupying 103,000 square meters in China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, it will feature 30 classes for junior high students and 60 classes for senior high students.

Last but not least, Huangpu will invest 374 million yuan in medical infrastructure. Construction of the Nanfang Hospital in Guangzhou Knowledge City will move ahead. With a floorage of 200,000 sq m, the hospital covers 85,395 sq m in Jiulong New Town and will offer 1,000 patient beds. When it opens, it will become the largest and best-equipped 3A-grade (the highest of China's three-tier grading system) hospital in Huangpu.
