Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital to branch out in Huangpu

Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital is set to create a new campus in Guangzhou's Huangpu district, with the aim of offering an additional 1,100 patient beds.

Yu Xueqing, president of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, revealed the news at a recent press conference themed around high-level hospital construction in Guangdong province.

Founded in 1946, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital is the largest comprehensive 3A-grade (the highest of China's three-tier grading system) hospital in Guangdong. It has 12 national key clinical specialties and 30 provincial key clinical specialties/disciplines.

The hospital is well-versed in treating cardiovascular diseases and performing cardiac surgeries. It has completed 159 heart transplants since 1998, and was the first hospital in the world to achieve success in fetal cardiac surgery during labor, as well as the first in the country to conduct fetal cardiac intervention.

As of now, the hospital has 73 doctoral supervisors, and 200 master's supervisors. It has cultivated 1,126 doctoral and postgraduate students over the past five years.

According to Yu, the hospital had brought in 76 high-level talents by 2019, and has taken on 12 more over the past two years. Another 18-20 high-caliber talents will be employed by the end of this year.

To date, Huangpu has attracted partnerships with multiple renowned medical institutions including Nanfang Hospital of Southern Medical University, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, and Barcelona International Hospital.

Construction of the Women's and Children's Affiliate Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Nanfang Hospital in Guangzhou Knowledge City, as well as the Yuzhu, Nangang and Yunpu health service centers, is also being pushed forward.
