Huangpu entrepreneur contributes wisdom to stem cell development

Chen Haijia, chairman of Guangzhou Saliai Stem Cell Science and Technology, called for high-quality development of the stem cell industry in his proposal to the fourth session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Cerebral palsy, cerebral atrophy, and spinal cord injury were incurable diseases until the invention of advanced treatment methods using mesenchymal stem cells. Guangzhou Saliai Stem Cell Science and Technology is a high-tech enterprise in Huangpu district that has made multiple breakthroughs in stem cells.

To boost the high-quality development of the stem cell industry, Chen advised the country to improve the laws and regulations on stem cell treatment products and to establish a full-life-cycle supervision mechanism covering the source, production, transportation, storage and application of these products.

He hopes China will speed up core technology mastery, increase support for new drug R&D and clinical research projects, enhance their intellectual property rights protection and achievement transformation, and formulate industrial standards related to stem cells. A national stem cell quality appraisal branch is expected to be established in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
