Information Times: Conference matches up pharmaceutical firms with experts

A matchmaking conference was held on Guangzhou International Bio Island on Feb 22 to boost cooperation between innovative pharmaceutical companies and renowned medical institutions.

Eighteen presidents and 20 clinical and pharmaceutical persons-in-charge attended from more than 20 medical institutions including the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Nanfang Hospital, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, and Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health. Six of these medical institutions rank among the top 20 in the country.

The attendees discussed new drug developments, clinical research and the introduction of innovative drugs into clinical application with executives from more than 20 pharmaceutical companies such as BeiGene, AstraZeneca, and Bio-Thera Solutions.

It was the first time that Guangzhou has hosted a hospital-enterprise exchange activity of this scale and at this level. Xiao Haipeng, president of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, noted that Guangzhou is home to a large number of medical experts, and that the development of the biopharmaceutical industry will be surely boosted if they get involved in the industry's R&D stage in advance, participate deeply, and work together to innovate.
