Updated : 2021-02-07

Guangzhou Development District has been rated sixth of 169 national high-tech industrial development zones in 2020, one place higher than it achieved in 2019,  following an evaluation by the Ministry of Science and Technology's Torch High Technology Industry Development Center.

The district recorded a regional GDP of nearly 370 billion yuan ($57 billion) in 2020. Its fiscal and tax revenues increased by 11.6 percent year-on-year to more than 130 billion yuan.

The local output value of industrial enterprises exceeded 800 billion yuan, accounting for more than 40 percent of Guangzhou's total, while the output value of high-technology industries accounted for more than 70 percent of the city's total.

GDD's fixed-asset investment, total commodity sales and seven other major indicators are all highest in the city.

Behind these eye-catching performances, the GDD Administration spent 7.16 billion yuan supporting scientific and technological development. This amount is among the highest of the domestic national high-tech industrial development zones.

In addition, the district has attached great importance to promoting the aggregation of industries, as well as to structural transformation and upgrading. It has been actively opening-up to the outside world to increase its international standing and enhance its global competitiveness.
