Guangzhou Development District (GDD) has been rated second among national economic development zones in terms of its comprehensive development level.
The Ministry of Commerce has conducted annual evaluations of national economic development zones since 2016. The latest assessment was completed at the end of last year based on their performance in 2019, and the results were announced on Jan 27.
The Ministry of Commerce announces the results of the 2020 evaluation of 218 national economic development zones across the country on Jan 27.
The regional GDP of China's 218 national economic development zones increased by 10.3 percent year-on-year to 10.5 trillion yuan ($1.62 trillion) in 2019, accounting for 10.6 percent of the country's total GDP.
Notably, the regional GDP of GDD, Suzhou Industrial Park, Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area and Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone all surpassed 200 billion yuan.
It is the fifth consecutive year that GDD has featured in the top three for comprehensive development level. Its actual used foreign investment and total import-exports ranked second and third nationwide respectively in the most recent evaluation.
