Guangzhou's Huangpu district has assumed a significant role in the 2021 tasks and development goals proposed in Guangdong province's government work report.

The district will advance the demolition of 66 old villages this year, as the report recommends that Guangzhou accelerates urban renovation and endows rundown areas with a new vibrancy.

China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Guangzhou Science City will be bolstered as pilot zones for artificial intelligence and the digital economy, according to the report.

They will enhance strategic cooperation with Nanshan district to become a core of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Scientific and Technological Innovation Corridor.

Construction of major scientific research incubation platforms such as the National Printing and Flexible Display Innovation Center in Guangzhou Science City will be pushed forward, says the report.

In addition, Huangpu will boost the development of its hydrogen fuel cell sector in Guangdong through leading projects. For instance, the hydrogen fuel cell production base invested by Hyundai will begin construction by the end of February.

The district will further improve its administrative procedures with measures such as tiered supervision based on enterprise credit, as Guangzhou strives to become a national pilot city for innovation in the business environment.

The integrated development level of Guangzhou and Qingyuan will also be elevated, as Huangpu will attract further high-quality industries to the Guangzhou (Qingyuan) Industrial Park.
