Huangpu named demonstration base for green industry

Updated : 2020-12-21

Guangzhou's Huangpu district was recently selected to be part of the first group of demonstration bases for the green industry by the National Development and Reform Commission.

Adhering to a green development concept, Huangpu has set an environmental protection threshold for the settlement of industrial projects. It prioritizes projects that feature low energy consumption and pollution emissions or promote the recycled use of resources.

Enterprises that exhibit environment-related illegal behaviors within one year or commit environment-damaging crimes within three years will not be able to enjoy local supportive policies, including the measures for Huangpu to promote the development of green finance.

In addition, Huangpu has made clean production inspection one of its priorities to improve the resource utilization rate of enterprises. The district leads Guangzhou in terms of the number of enterprises it inspects and the annual tasks it completes.

As of now, Huangpu is home to 211 green enterprises above designated size, which have an output value of 236.45 billion yuan ($36 billion). Of them, there are 25 leading enterprises each with an annual output value of more than 1 billion yuan.

Huangpu, which values green technological innovation to foster core competitiveness, has seven national, 76 provincial, and 94 municipal R&D institutions related to green industries.
