Guangzhou honors Huangpu individuals, collectives for COVID-19 fight

A total of 36 individuals and 12 collectives from Huangpu district were honored for their contributions to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic at an award conference held in Guangzhou on Dec 10.

One of the winners, Huang Li, went to Hubei province on Jan 24 to assist at the initiative of her enterprise. She committed herself to renovating the labs of Huanggang Tuberculosis Prevention and Control Hospital upon arrival, and came up with the lysis buffer inactivated virus detection method.

After leaving Hubei, Huang also went to Qiqihar, Changchun, Beijing, and other places to fight sporadic outbreaks of COVID-19, serving as an exemplary model for young Party members born in the 1990s.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, the Huangpu industry and information technology bureau has mobilized local enterprises in their R&D efforts. In the first half of this year, Huangpu produced more than 70 million nucleic acid detection kits, accounting for one fourth of the nation's total.

In addition, more than 30,000 tons of disinfectant, over 100 million facial masks, more than 1.7 million protective units, and nearly 800 mask machines were produced for COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control efforts.

Of note, all staff at the Huangpu Center for Disease Control and Prevention cancelled their holiday to go on 24-hour duty, which covered epidemic monitoring, field investigations, sampling, detection, training, supervision, assessments, health education, and disinfection guidance.
