Expanded Lingnan Hospital to offer 900 extra beds by 2024

The second phase of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Lingnan Hospital) is calling for construction bids.

Covering 86,841 square meters, the project is located at No 2693 Kaichuang Avenue, with West Xinyang Road to the east and Kefeng Road to the west of it. Suyuan Station of metro line 6 is in its proximity.

With an investment of 1.62 billion yuan ($247 million), the expansion will involve a total floorage of 208,182.57 sq m.

The 136,551.35 sq m aboveground floor area will be used for a comprehensive surgical building, a clinical research and transformation center, which will include an administrative building, a logistics building, and an auditorium, a physical examination and encephalopathy center, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, a morgue, as well as a sewage treatment center.

In addition, the 71,631.22 sq m underground floor area will include a radiotherapy center, nuclear medicine facilities, an energy station, a laboratory ancillary room, underground parking space, and an equipment room.

In terms of architectural design, the project will boast good lighting and ventilation. It will have a sunshade design to improve the comfort of doctors and patients, as well as to reduce energy consumption.

Upon completion by 2024, the hospital will integrate medical treatment, prevention, healthcare, rehabilitation, teaching, and scientific research, while providing 900 more beds for patients.
