Updated : 2020-12-03

Guangzhou Science City, which will expand seven times its size to an area of 144.65 square kilometers, will be developed into a Chinese center for smart manufacturing with global influence.

An improvement plan of Guangzhou Science City was released by the Huangpu planning and natural resources bureau on Dec 1.

The document positions the area as a major engine for scientific and technological innovation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, a pioneer for high-quality development of the national manufacturing industry, a vigorous zone for the development of private businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as a demonstration zone for high-level opening-up and cooperation.

In terms of spatial layout, Guangzhou Science City will be comprised a headquarters economy development ring, three centers for comprehensive services and industrial services, two development axes, as well as 10 diversified development areas.

Three emerging industrial clusters related to new-generation information technology, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine will be fostered, while a benchmark Chinese smart manufacturing industry will be cultivated.

The "Yunpu Central Area" concept  was put forth for the first time, which will feature smart manufacturing industrial parks and a riverside leisure belt. It will supplement the current central area, which will have a 1.5-kilometer commercial street and aerial boardwalks.
