Two Huangpu workers deemed exemplary

Zhou Zhen from Guangzhou's Huangpu district was honored as national role model worker on Nov 24, while Xu Tao was recognized as national exemplary individual.

The selection of national role model workers and national exemplary individuals is conducted every five years. The nominees are from all walks of life and have made great contributions to socioeconomic development since 2015.

Zhou, who is the general manager of Guangzhou Hexin Analytical Instrument, has assembled a domestic top-level mass spectrometry technological innovation team and set up China's first mass spectrometer R&D platform, achieving the localization and industrialization of high-performance time-of-flight mass spectrometers. China is now one of the few countries in the world that has mastered the core technology of time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

Xu, who is the director of Guangzhou Regenerative Medicine and Health Guangdong Laboratory, as well as a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has advanced 10 projects related to rapid detection, emergency drugs, and vaccine R&D after the COVID-19 outbreak earlier this year.

Xu also promoted information sharing among Guangdong province, Guangzhou, and CAS, while pushing forward the establishment of a prevention-detection-treatment system by uniting more than 20 pharmaceutical enterprises and hospitals in Guangdong.
