Longping Academician Harbor welcomes first tenants

The first group of academicians settled in the Longping Academician Harbor in Guangzhou's Huangpu district on Nov 20.

The group includes Yuan Longping, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and China's "father of hybrid rice," Xie Huaan, a member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Luo Xiwen, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at South China Agricultural University, Zou Xuexiao, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and deputy Party secretary of Hunan Agricultural University, as well as Liu Zhonghua, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor at Hunan Agricultural University.

The Longping Academician Harbor will bring in high-end agricultural science and technology resources, as well as foster a hi-tech enterprise cluster, while setting up first-class scientific research institutions, technological transformation and trade platforms, as well as project incubation centers to boost industry-university-research integrated agricultural development.

A Longping Academician Harbor Agricultural Innovation Development Fund was founded on the same day. Yuan donated 100,000 yuan ($15,190) as start-up capital, while Guangdong Dinglong Group donated 10 million yuan. Eligible projects of the scientific research teams in the Longping Academician Harbor will be subsidized.

In addition, the plaques of the Huangpu Research Institute of Longping Agriculture Science and Technology, the Huangpu Innovation Research Institute of South China Agricultural University, and the Huangpu Innovation Research Institute of Hunan Agricultural University were unveiled that day to pioneer the innovative development of national agricultural science and technology.
