New avenue to cut distance between knowledge, science cities

Updated : 2020-10-28

Construction on the Junhe section of North Chuangxin Avenue began recently, which will cut the travel time between China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Guangzhou Science City to 15 minutes.

With an investment of 700 million yuan ($104 million), the dual eight-lane Junhe section spans 2.5 kilometers from Guangshan Road to Shilong Avenue.

When Chuangxin Avenue is put into use, the south-north thoroughfare in Guangzhou's Huangpu district will connect China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou Science City, Lin'gang area, and Guangzhou International Bio Island.

In addition to Chuangxin Avenue, work on Kaifang Avenue, as well as an express road between China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Guangzhou Science City is also underway.

With an investment of more than 4 billion yuan, construction on the 50-km dual eight lane Kaifang Avenue began in August and will last 30 months. Once completed, it will connect China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, Guangzhou Science City, and Lin'gang CBD.

The avenue will merge into the Shayuzhou Tunnel to access Panyu district, Guangzhou South Railway Station, and Nansha district in the south, while leading into Guangcong Road, East Huadu Avenue, Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and Conghua district via Jiulong Avenue in the north.

With an investment of 2 billion yuan, the 11.3-km express road between China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City and Guangzhou Science City will feature a dual six-lane structure designed with a speed of 60 km per hour.

The express road, which stretches from the intersection of Changlingju Outer Ring Road and Line A to the Junhe section of Chuangxin Avenue, will open to traffic by 2023.
