Huangpu goes all out to help foreign employees return to work

Updated : 2020-10-23

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Guangzhou's Huangpu district has made great efforts to help foreigners return to work in local enterprises.

As of Aug 31, Huangpu had handled 3,021 applications for foreigners that work in China from local enterprises, accounting for 62 percent of Guangzhou's total and 26 percent of Guangdong province's total.

The local foreign affairs, commerce, industry and information technology, as well as public security authorities have established a one-stop service platform to facilitate the application handling process.

Applications can be processed online, with district-level procedures completed within three working days. Foreign applicants can then receive inivation letters from the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province in as fast as four days.

Huangpu has taken the lead in the province to bring back foreign employees via chartered flights, through joint efforts with foreign affairs, port, health, and public security authorities.

For instance, it has helped LG Display bring back about 2,200 executives, technical staff members, and their families, which ensured that the first large-size organic light-emitting diode panel production line outside of South Korea was able to realize mass production.
