China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City (CSGKC) in Huangpu district has been selected as a demonstration project for the construction of a green, ecological and low-carbon new area under the Guangzhou Cool City Action.
Guangzhou was designated as the first pilot city for the World Bank's sustainable urban cooling project in China this year. It is expected to release a report on its pilot work globally through the World Bank by 2021.
Sustainable cooling is a new pathway that the World Bank has been promoting in recent years to tackle climate change and boost urban sustainable development. It intends to optimize urban microclimate and increase temperature comfort through natural regulation and manual intervention.
CSGKC boasts green development.
Guangzhou is one of the cities with the most concentrated and largest-scale population and economic activities in subtropical zones. The innovation experiences generated by Guangzhou and other pilot cities are expected to provide affordable and accessible urban cooling solutions to developing countries.
CSGKC will be committed to exploring sustainable urban cooling strategies and measures in the planning and construction of areas under high-strength development. It has already made prominent achievements in low-carbon development with the construction of a sponge city and ventilation corridors, as well as the promotion of green architecture.
