New Guangzhou Twelfth People's Hospital campus begins construction

Construction of the new third-grade class-A Guangzhou Twelfth People's Hospital campus began in Huangpu district on Sept 29.

The new campus, which covers a 103,000-square-meter area west of Danshuikeng Road and south of Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway, will be equipped with 1,600 patient beds.

With an investment of 1.08 billion yuan ($161 million), the 55,000-sq-m first phase will feature a floor area of 123,650 sq m, of which 77,990 sq m will be above ground and 45,660 sq m below ground. It will consist of an outpatient building, a medical technology building, an inpatient building, a chemical poisoning rescue base and supporting facilities.

There will be 600 beds, 17 standard operating rooms and six daytime operation rooms in the first phase. By the time of its launch in 2023, it will be able to receive more than 3,000 emergency cases daily.

The second phase will be submitted for administrative approval by the end of this year.

A new medical center to serve eastern Guangzhou, the Huangpu campus will be committed to clinical medical treatment, teaching and scientific research, occupational disease prevention and treatment, chemical poisoning rescue, as well as monitoring, testing and identification of toxic and harmful substances. In addition, it will also provide relevant guidance, training, assessment and consulting services.
