GDUFS' Knowledge City campus welcomes first group of students

The China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) welcomed its first 423 postgraduate freshmen on Sept 20.

The new campus is located near Phoenix Lake Park and Wangcun Subway Station, boasting a pleasant ecological environment and convenient transport.

The School of Legal Studies and the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies were the first two faculties to settle in the campus. Both of them boast advanced equipment and outstanding teaching resources.

More than 94 percent of the teachers at the School of Legal Studies have a doctoral degree and over 60 percent of them have studied abroad. The teachers are required to spend no less than eight hours instructing their students face to face every month.

In addition, the design of the teaching buildings takes references from that of Harvard Law School, which sets up dedicated rooms for discussion between teachers and students.

More than 64 percent of the teachers of the School of Interpreting and Translation Studies have a doctoral degree, while over 90 percent have studied or worked abroad. Each postgraduate student will be assigned with two instructors, one of whom is a teacher and the other is a renowned expert or practical elite.

The school is equipped with tutorial laboratories for simultaneous interpretation and machine-aided translation.
