Huangpu helps Tibet poverty alleviation efforts

Updated : 2020-09-01

Guangzhou's Huangpu district has made remarkable achievements in assisting the poverty alleviation efforts of impoverished areas in Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region through industrial development.

The 37-year-old Soinam Wangmo is a leader in Yusha village, Yuxu township that has helped lead villagers to increase their incomes. A few years ago, she took care of her children and dug up cordyceps at home. A training organized by the local agriculture authorities inspired her to use greenhouses to grow ganoderma. Huangpu not only gave her an industrial support fund, but also sent staff from the district's science and technology bureau for technical guidance many times.

The Yushu Township Collective Economic Industrial Development Demonstration Park was established with 2.15 million yuan ($315,190) from Huangpu. The park adopts a "company + farmer + market" model, which means that the company provides technical guidance to the villagers and returns profits in processing, purchase and sales, as well as other links to increase the incomes of local residents.
