1st phase of Huangpu tram line 5 gains administrative approval

Updated : 2020-08-27

The proposal for the first phase of tram line 5 in Guangzhou's Huangpu district has been recently approved by the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

With an investment of about 2.89 billion yuan ($420 million), the tram line 5 will span 14.5 kilometers from Zhenlong West Station to Yuyan Road Station.

In the future, the project team will conduct research on passenger demand, routes, and the station layout, as well as connections with other means of transport.

Currently, Huangpu is accelerating the construction of its tram line network. The Xiangxue-Nangang section of tram line 2 will open in 2022, and the Yuyan-Wangcun section will open in 2024. By then, travel between Guangzhou Science City, Sino-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City, and Changlingju will take less than 40 minutes via metro line 21 and tram lines 1, 2, and 5.
