The working conference of the Industrial Association on Autonomous Driving in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held on June 30 in Guangzhou's Huangpu district, gathering more than 100 guests.

An analysis report on the operational capacity of autonomous driving vehicles in China from 2019 to 2020 was released during the conference by the association, sharing the achievements in the standardization of China's autonomous driving to the whole world and boosting the development of smart networks in the automobile industry in the Greater Bay Area.

The report noted that safety supervisors will no longer be needed in Guangzhou's autonomous driving.

A total of 160 autonomous driving vehicles will be put into use in Guangzhou by WeRide, one of the leading startups in the self-driving taxi industry, increasing the overall number from 100 to 260.

Dong Zhiguo, secretary general of the association, said that the first international smart automobile conference is expected to be held in Guangzhou this December.

The automobile industry is one of the three pillar industries in Huangpu that has an industrial scale of over 100 billion yuan ($14.25 billion). The district has clustered a batch of projects with great influence, such as WeRide, Xpeng, and Jumbo Bus.
