Guangzhou Daily: Huangpu to build runway for intl half marathons

Updated : 2020-06-09

Changzhou Island in Guangzhou's Huangpu district will build an ecological corridor integrating facilities serving the public and nature, according to the bidding for the first-phase construction released on June 6.

Stretching 16,260 meters, the first phase of the ecological corridor is expected to be finished by January 2021. It will renovate an overall green area of 32,729 square meters.

The project, which is expected to cost 53.07 million yuan ($7.51 million), will include construction in areas spanning water supply and drainage, lighting, green area renovation, as well as roads.

A runway spanning a total of 23 kilometers will be built on Changzhou Island as the topographic relief of the island is suitable for building runways for international standard half marathons. The construction will apply the standards for runways of marathon events at the A2 level with a theme integrating history, ecology, and human culture.

The corridor will also function as a connection between tourist attractions on the island, offering a richer traveling experience for visitors.
