The Patent Examination Cooperation Guangdong Center of the Patent Office in Guangzhou's Huangpu district has recently received a two-star Green Building Label, with a reward of 600,000 yuan ($84,122.15), being the first in the district to receive the honor.
The Green Building Label is a three-level rating system in China.
The concept of the green building not only emphasizes the importance of green areas, such as vertical planting and roof gardens, but also stresses the significance of a development method that makes the building harmless to the environment through passive design and making full use of natural resources.
The overall design of the patent office in Huangpu applied the design of an office park, establishing a brand-new office model, as well as an ecological and low-carbon park.
Grass block pavers and pervious concrete were used in the construction of the office, while plants adapting to the climate and soil conditions in Guangzhou are cultivated outdoors.
Traditional architecture elements, such as qilou, or arcade houses, and open halls were integrated into the design of the office.
Simulation and optimization in the wind and light environments were conducted during the pre-design phase so that most of the rooms in the building can realize natural lighting, reducing its energy consumption.
By the end of 2019, a total of 35 projects involving more than 260 buildings in Huangpu have won the one-star Green Building Label, spanning an overall building area of 3.39 million square meters.
The environmentally friendly design of the building allows most of its rooms to be able to realize natural lighting.
