Nearly 90 percent of the world's top 500 companies in the Guangzhou Development District have resumed production in this Guangdong provincial capital so far, according to a statement released by GDD on Friday.

The number of companies resuming production is also growing day after day, the statement read.

By Thursday at noon a total of 3,061 companies, including 86 firms listed at the world's top 500, in Guangzhou's Huangpu district and GDD had resumed production.

Companies that have resumed production employ more than 170,000 workers, with some companies working overtime to produce anti-epidemic materials and products.

According to a senior executive from Guangzhou P&G, the company's Huangpu factory has resumed production since Feb 5.

"More than 60 percent of the company's production lines have now resumed production, involving more than 1,000 workers," the executive said. "Most of the production lines that have resumed production mainly produce body wash, shampoo and other personal hygiene products."

He added his company has introduced concrete and effective anti-epidemic measures to prevent his workers from being infected with the novel coronavirus when they return to work.

"The measures have included giving at least three masks to workers daily, offering health guidelines to workers and cleaning and disinfecting workshops with high frequency to ensure a safe working environment," he added.

In Guangzhou Bayer Supply Center, about 60 percent of production capacity has been restored, meeting the demand of product supplies, a senior executive from the center said.

"Many workers in the workshops that are producing anti-epidemic medical materials now have to work overtime," he said.

"In recent weeks, we have relevant support from local governments. For example, we have been supplied with enough masks for workers by relevant departments," the executive said.

He said he has confidence to meet the company's annual production targets by the end of year.

And more than 95 percent of the staff from Guangzhou Bioseal Biotech Co, Ltd has now returned to work in the company, a senior executive said.

"The rest of the staff has also been working at home," the executive said.

Huangpu district and GDD have introduced a series of policies to encourage local companies to resume production after the Lunar New Year.

And the district government and GDD have ensured enough anti-epidemic product supplies, including masks, to local companies to restore production, the executive said.
