As a major engine of Guangzhou's real economy, Huangpu district, Guangzhou Development District (GDD) has achieved remarkable results in resuming work after the Spring Festival holiday and the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP).

A total of 1,224 companies had started operations by 15:00 on Feb 10, including 159 companies above designated scale, involving 117,688 employees. A total of 51 of China's top 100 industrial companies have resumed work, accounting for 41 percent of the total number in GDD.

The number of companies and employees resuming work on Feb 10 amounted to 719 and 74,669 respectively, each being 142 percent and 174 percent of the total number of that in the last 10 days.

Starting from Feb 1, GDD has seen an average of 30 companies and 1,200 employees resuming work every day.

It is expected that the peak time for resuming work in GDD will arrive this week, as more than 65 percent of local companies will begin operations between Feb 10 to 15, including 75 of China’s top 100 industrial companies.

Guangzhou Bright Dairy Co Ltd, the largest and the most advanced dairy factory in the South China region, has arranged 125 employees to resume work. “The rate of employees resuming work has reached around 70 to 80 percent, and the capacity can be basically recovered,” said an administrative staff member of the company.
