A themed forum co-hosted by Guangzhou Development District (GDD) and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) took place on Dec 5 in Hong Kong during the ninth Business of IP Asia Forum.

The Business of IP Asia Forum, jointly organized by the government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), HKTDC, and the Hong Kong Design Center (HKDC), was held from Dec 5 to 6 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, gathering over 1,000 global representatives from IP industries.

As part of the event, GDD's forum was themed around "A Global Center of Innovation: IP Infrastructure and Business Opportunities in the Greater Bay Area."

Michelle LK Chong, assistant director of the HK Intellectual Property Department, said that a new IP system will be put into effect on Dec 19 to contribute to Hong Kong's development into an innovation and IP trade center.

Hot issues spanning the diverse needs of domestic technological companies to attract high-caliber talents and technological outcomes, as well as their impetus in expanding market space were discussed during the forum, with constructive suggestions and measures put forward.

The 10 regulations in the mutual recognition of intellectual property (IP) in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao were also vigorously discussed at the forum.

GDD is expected to introduce more resources into the district, as well as promote IP communication and cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, establishing a better business environment to attract more international technological outcomes.
