Guangzhou Daily: Huangpu strives to boost local cosmetic industry development

Huangpu International Cosmetic Technology and Innovation Conference, themed around technology, innovation and quality, kicked off in Huangpu district, Guangzhou Development District (GDD) on Dec 6.

More than 400 entrepreneurs and technology developers from over 100 companies from all over the country - including Procter & Gamble, Amway, Colgate and Watson - attended the conference. 

Seven outstanding experts in the cosmetic industry from seven countries including France, the United States, Japan, Australia and South Korea gave keynote speeches during the event. Various aspects of the cosmetic industries including raw materials, packaging, scientific research and development trends were covered in the conference.

GDD contains a batch of international multinational companies and leading domestic companies in cosmetic production, which has offered new opportunities for the development of the cosmetic industry cluster in the area.

GDD's cosmetic industrial output value in 2018 reached 40 billion yuan ($5.69 billion) and its industrial scale amounted to 80 billion yuan, accounting for half of Guangzhou's total.

Currently the area is home to 59 certificated companies managing cosmetic production - and more than 30 percent of them have registered capital of more than 100 million yuan.

Zheng Weidong, chairman of GDD’s cosmetic industry association, said that inviting international experts and scholars to give lectures on difference technologies in Huangpu has provided an international platform for technological communication among companies in GDD and the whole country, promoting the industry status and international influence of GDD’s cosmetic industry.
