With an investment of 46 billion yuan ($6.43 billion) from South Korea's LG Display Co, by the end of 2020 the plant's capacity is expected to reach 90,000 glass substrates per month and 4.98 million glass substrates per year, and to generate about 20 billion yuan in annual output value.

By that time, the display panel industrial cluster in GHIDZ will bring about an annual industrial output value of 120 billion yuan and make the city a global OLED display base.

The construction of the production plant in GHIDZ started in July 2017. It occupies 190,000 square meters with a floorage of 560,000 sq m. The main building has nine stories and is 94 meters high.

The plant's glass substrates measure 2.2 meters by 2.5 meters and its panels will be used for 4K ultra-high-definition large-sized OLED televisions, mainly in sizes of 55 inches, 65 inches and 77 inches. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]

The use of the third Generation 8.5 line follows two in South Korea, and the plant is set to double its LG Display large panel capacity upon full operation in 2021.

LG Display is currently the only company capable of mass producing large-sized OLED screens globally.

LG Display has built three plants in the GHIDZ, covering a total area of about 69,000 sq m, with a total investment of $13 billion. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
