The first hydrogen fuel cell membrane electrode project in China was recently industrialized in Huangpu district and the Guangzhou Development Zone.

The dust-free plant of the investor, SinoHyKEY (Guangzhou) Co, is nearcompletion and the production lines are being assembled and tested.

It has also launched its first membrane electrode product – the HyKey 1.0, which will start mass production this September.

The project has progressed well since the company's establishment less than 18 months ago.

"The importance of developing hydrogen energy has been well recognized, we must act immediately, otherwise it will be difficult to enter this industry," said Zou Yuquan, general manager of the company.

Zou had been a senior scientist in Canada's Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation and founded the company in December 2017. He led a group of researchers to develop the high-performance fuel cell membrane electrode.

He has applied for 11 patents globally and published 16 papers in internationally influential journals.

With mass production the company will produce 300,000 square meters of membrane electrodes with an annual output value of 600,000 million ($86.87 million) to 1 billion yuan.

It will also cut the general cost of the product by more than 30 percent and lower the cost of hydrogen energy cars by an amount ranging from 50,000 to 80,000 yuan.
