As one of the first 5G pilot cities in China, Guangzhou has seen the birth of nearly 100 5G base stations built by the three big Chinese telecom operators.

Guangzhou International Biotech Island (GIBI), Guangzhou Science City and other sites have taken the lead in welcoming the stations.

Guangzhou will continue to strengthen the guiding role of the government in site planning, co-construction and sharing, public resource opening and other aspects of the overall layout of 5G network construction, in order to speed up the progress of 5G pilots, verify key technologies, advance the combination of 5G and smart street lights, and further expand the 5G pilot network.

The Guangzhou High-Tech Zone, GDD and Huangpu district are the first 5G-based demonstration zones of the Internet of Things and Smart City in the province, with the output value of the new IT industry expected to exceed 200 billion yuan($30 billion).

Accelerating its network reach, Huangpu will build 3,500 5G base stations by the end of 2019, which is in line with the city-wide 5G construction timetable; and Guangzhou will build 10,000 5G macro base stations by the end of 2019 in an effort to take the lead in realizing 5G pilot commercial use this year.

Huangpu's 5G industry boasts a solid basis, covering 5G core devices, 5G network equipment, 5G terminal equipment, and nearly 50 enterprises.

Huizhou Speed Wireless signed an agreement with Huangputhis February to set up its 5G industrial headquarters in the district with a total investment of about 1bn yuan.
