The total value of import and export trade regulated by Huangpu Customs reached 1.53 trillion yuan ($227 billion) in 2018, a record high.

Last year Huangpu Customs continued to deepen reforms and optimize the business environment for foreign trade. The overall customs clearance time of imports and exports were respectively 43.4 percent and 74.6 percent shorter than that of 2017, reducing the overall customs clearance time by more than a third.

Accordingly, Huangpu Customs became the first direct affiliated customs comprehensive reform project approved by the General Administration of Customs, P.R.China in 2018.

In order to further boost cross-border trade facilitation, Huangpu Customs took the lead in establishing 24-hour customs clearance at sea ports through the "five intelligences" of weighing, screening, checking, mapping and loading and unloading.

Last year, the ratio of high-quality senior certification enterprises and high-quality general certification enterprises in the customs area increased by six percent and 14 percent respectively, and 704,000 certificates of origin were issued.

Trade partners taking part in the Belt and Road Initiative increased to 64 while 122 international trains operated last year, with a cargo volume of 80,000 tons and a value of 2.82 billion yuan, increases of 19.6 percent and 27.6 percent respectively.

Li Wenjian, director of Huangpu Customs, has put forward this year's work goals which include changing the concept of governance, strengthening the pragmatic approach, and continuing high-quality development of Huangpu Customs.
